The magnificent sea anemone
The magnificent sea anemone - Heteractis magnifica
Anemones is part of the anthozoa class of the cnidaria phylums. Just like corals, anemone provide a shelter for other organisms especially fish. They provide shelter from strong current and predators.
One of the example of sea anemone is the magnificent sea anemone or Heteractis magnifica. In nature this anemone is a clown host anemone. It has an intense body coloration ranging from avocado green, greenish-browns and white, to sky blue and violet. Its 3" long tentacles have iridescent bulb shaped tips that are a yellowish green
The anemone produce a toxin called nematocysts which paralyzes other organisms, but this toxin does not affect the clown fish and that is why the clownfish makes the sea anemones as a home. The clown fish itself helps the sea anemone by eating parasites of the sea anemone.
